Mac Photos faces problem

When I look at People in Photos, I see boxed images with names, and many blank boxes with the same names but no images (though images come up when I click on the blank boxes). How do I merge all the boxes with the same names? And why are some of the named boxes blank?

Instructions for merging say to select the boxes and control-click to merge people, but I can only select boxes that are next to each other. And when I click Merge, the boxes remain blank and remain separate, even though images come up when I click the blank boxes.

To merge two people that are not next to each other, you can also drag one album on top of the other.

Or select both albums at the same time: Select one of the albums, then hold down the command key ⌘ and click the next album. Now ctrl-click the selection and select "merge". You cannot urge an album with pets with the album of a person, however.

Have you tried to select a different key photo for the blank boxes? If there are photos coming up, when you open the blank boxes, ry to select one of them as the key photo.

To make an image become a key photo, select that picture (you may want to "show all" if there's lots of pictures) and control-click-- you'll get a menu with "Make Key Photo" at the bottom. Then the closeup face will appear in the People view.
