Apple Pay uses wrong card

I have several credit cards in my Apple Wallet (synched with Apple Watch). Twice now, when I use my watch to pay, I swipe to select the card that I want to use, hold the watch near the reader, and it charges the transaction to a different card in my wallet. The cards are not adjacent in the list, so doubtful that I accidentally changed it as I'm careful not to touch the watch as I hold it near the reader. Both times I selected one card and it charged to the same (wrong) card.

Watch Wallet has its own default card from iPhone.

Go to Apple Watch > Wallet App (this is on the Watch itself) < tap 3 dots in upper left corner of screen > set default card to desired card for Watch. That may help in getting the card picked you want.

Hi Jeff, thanks, but I do have everything set correctly (default card set on both iPhone and Watch). The issue is not with default card, it's the fact that I choose card #5 to make the payment and the charge goes through on card #3. As I said earlier, card #1 is set as default on both devices. Next time I'll pay with my iPhone instead of my watch as I won't have to turn the screen to face the reader, that way I can be absolutely certain that the correct card is selected.
