How to transfer a DVD movie in to Apple iTunes

I have a collection of"old" dvd movies that I would like to download into my iPad. My iPad is running OS 17.2 (6th G iPad mini) and my iMac is running MacOS Sonoma 14.2. The DVD's are in their original form and may be "protected", but they are 15-20 years old.
