Remove payment method from app for free apps on iPhone
I need my credit card removed and I don’t want it to interfere when I make app purchases

Some apps will require the presence of a credit card in order to get them. If you are going to get one of those then not having one will definitely "interfere".

Unexpired subscriptions and Family Sharing organizers must always have a payment method present. To edit the cards used for those you may need to first add the new card and make it the primary payment method before removing the old card (see: If you need to change or update your Apple ID payment method - Apple Support ).
