Use eSIM, disable Physical SIM?

I’ll be travelling in Europe soon. I plan to buy prepaid e-SIMs for my iPhone 13 and my wife’s iPhone 12.

How can I disable the physical SIM in the phones to ensure I don’t incur any roaming charges from my home carrier, without removing them from the phones?

Easiest way is to simply remove the SIM. Otherwise, the SIM is around, and can be selected and activated.

You could set a PIN/PUK, and swap the SIM out temporarily, and not re-enter that PIN/PUK on insertion. (I haven’t tried this, but it should block access. It’ll also prevent shenanigans, if the iPhone gets lost or stolen.)

But removing the SIM is easiest. Maybe place it underneath the protective case, if you’re using one of those?
