Device Not Recognized by iTunes on Windows PC

Initially my iPhone would not sync with iTunes so I uninstalled and reinstalled the app. I downloaded iTunes from the Microsoft store however iTunes would no longer recognize the iPhone or iPad. **NOT a hardware issue.

After spending time with Apple Support we uninstalled iTunes from the Microsoft Store and reinstalled a slightly older version from the iTunes download. After this install, an error message popped up [the file "itunes library.itl:" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes].

This is a simple fix. Locate the file "iTunes library.itl" in the //Music/iTunes/ folder and rename it. Restart iTunes and the file will recreate itself. Voila, the device(s) shows up as expected.

I simply updated the current software. I did not attempt to reuse the "iTunes library.itl" though it may have worked. I keep my music library separate and imported the directories I require.

**This is not a question - merely a solution to a problem that wasted too much time.
