Unused 1st generation apple pencil

I have a first gen apple pencil bought in 2019 but unused. I unpacked it on Jan 14, 2024 to discover that it was not working. I read online that the reason could be a dead battery.

Can i get a new one or exchange it for a working one at the apple store?

Unlikely.

Had it been less than a year since purchase the warranty would have covered a dead battery.

At over 3 years, there's no reasonable expectation of functionality if its been unused and uncharged for that long.

You are free to take it to an Apple store and see if they'll exchange it, but don't expect it.
