Old Charger does not fit iphone15

I have an old iPhone 8 plus. I read that old chargers work on new phones but the old charger does not fit the iPhone 15 plus. This is a shame since the old charger has a wall plug connection.

I just bought an iPhone 15 and the cable that came with it is too small to fit in the charger. Was I supposed to buy a new charger I’m trying to charge my phone and the cable that came with it is too small to fit n the charger. Was I supposed to get a different one?
