Internet Recovery/Activation loop

I need help!! i’ve been stuck in this loop since November. I was told by Apple to update my macbook to Sonoma 14.1.1 so i did but it got stuck in this loop before it updated. It had plenty of storage on it so i’m not sure what happened. So it has me type in the wifi and then it says “Starting Internet Recovery. This may take awhile.” when it’s done doing that it says “The operation couldn't be completed. Activation Lock status could not be determined because the activation lock server cannot be reached. Try again in a few minutes. If this problem persists, contact Apple Support” I got it off Ebay in march and this hasn’t happened to me before. I’ve tried hard resetting it with the keys, i bought an adapter and an ethernet cord. i’ve taken it to others houses and tried different wifi. i’ve definitely tried again in a few minutes as it’s been almost 4 months. i’ve tried getting help from apple chat but nothing there. I really want to fix it myself if i can , the closest apple store is 2 hours away. i use this for work and this has been extremely stressful:( I have a Macbook Air 2020 a2179. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
