Will blood oxygen sensor ban affect UK customers?

Hi,

I wanted to upgrade my watch S5 to the S9 but wanted to know if the ban will affect owners in the UK. OTA software update could disable the blood oxygen sensor and I rather not buy a watch to lose functionality.

Thanks,

Riyaz

It is a ban for imports into the US so it appears that if the sensor is disabled it will only be affecting US sold watches. What’s unclear is if the disable would affect current owners or only affect new ones sold with the feature already disabled. But there doesn’t appear to be anything for non-US purchased/owned watches to worry about as it currently stands.

Hi I just bought my Apple Watch in the US today and i live in the UK - does this mean my watch won’t do the blood oxygen when I get back to the UK on Saturday as they didn’t advise of that in the store

It knows it is a U.S. Apple Watch. If it was imported after the ban went into effect, then it will block the O2 sensor anywhere in the world.

If it was imported before the ban, then the O2 sensor should continue to work.

Or at least that is the theory the volunteers in this user-to-user technical support forum think.

After we get some feedback via posts in the forums saying we guessed right and the sensors work for pre-banded models, but do not work for post-banded models then great.

Else we adjust our theory and hope for better news in the future.
