how to add in a promo code to an existing subscription
i got a peacock student discount with a code that I want to add to my existing subscription and I am not sure how to add it

You best check with Apple; as an end user, I am not aware that Apple accepts discount codes. I started a purchase to check but did not get an option for a discount before abandoning the fake purchase.
