Egpu mac mini late 2012

Hi I'm looking at running an egpu with my mac mini late 2012. Is this possible? if so how would I go about and which egpu would I need? many thanks

Apple does not provide Thunderbolt 1 eGFX support themselves.


You would need a 3rd party open source kernel mod/extension, a TB3 to TB2 adapter, and an old GPU with Mac Drivers for your OS.


However TB1 only runs at 10Gbps (a performance bottleneck) and Catalina doesn’t have drivers to run anything newer than an a Polaris/Vega GPU.


At this point I would suggest buying a new/newer computer. The 2018 mini is best if you specifically want to use an eGPU, otherwise see the current 2023 M2 mini.
