I have just taken a subscription to AppleTV and installed the App on my Amazon Fire (I have the small flat box and NOT the stick version).
The app launched and advised that I should update the software on the Amazon File - which I have done.

The Apple TV app should run on all Fire TV streaming devices and Fire TV ‘Edition’ televisions, except the oldest 3 models or so.
