Sharing Apple ID and password

Hello,

I bought an iPhone 14 Pro Max about 5 months back and had an issue with the green screen. As a result I was unable to access my phone and returned it back to the authorized dealer for fixing.

the dealer was insisting that I provide him my Apple ID and password as the repair center would need to access this and ‘verify’ that it is my iPhone.

I would like to know whether providing sensitive details like this is necessary?

All I want is the phone to be restored and provided as it was. I can upload my files later.

please do let me know your views.

best regards,

abhishek

You shoule never share this info to anyone.

Get your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch ready for service

  1. Back up your iOS or iPadOS device.
  2. Have your Apple ID password ready. ...
  3. If your device needs battery service, make sure that the battery percentage is at 30% or less when you bring it in, if possible. ...
  4. Turn off Apple Cash and remove your cards and passes.

Your dealer should never need that information.

With your login and password your dealer has full access to any credit cards in your wallet along with your email and Message/SMS accounts; basically they can do anything as you.

That is not required for a repair.

It's like taking your car into a mechanic for a repair and leaving them your keys, your wallet, your checkbook and the passwords to all your Internet accounts.

However, you should make a backup, just in case, spare phone or not. It doesn't take long and can save you a lot of headaches later on.
