Why does my iMac 12.1 with Hi Sierra format 4 TB hard drives to 1.8 TB in size.

I checked on three different disks.. What can I do? Thank you .

Have you reformatted these drives since you bought them? They may be limited in size of they are using the MBR partition map common for Windows formatted drives.

Use Disk Utility to reformat them with the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format and the GUID partition scheme.
