Have you reformatted these drives since you bought them? They may be limited in size of they are using the MBR partition map common for Windows formatted drives.
Use Disk Utility to reformat them with the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format and the GUID partition scheme.

Thank you very much for your answer. I think the answer there is correct - I need to look for a box with SATA 3, instead of my SATA 2.
I found this old thread regarding drives and enclosures after a quick google search, maybe pertinent (?).
Thank you . You're right, it happens, but that's exactly what I do - I reformat it with Disk Utility in Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
