Documents missing on local drive and in Icloud

Apparently I set my local computer to not synch the documents and desktop with Icloud. Now my documents folder on my macbook is empty and there is no documents folder in iCloud. HOw can I get all my photos and years of documents back?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 14.2

Were you syncing to iCloud and turned off desktop and documents? Or were you never set up on iCloud?

If you turned off sync, your desktop and documents files move to iCloud only and can be accessed at iCloud.com or in the iCloud Drive folder in finder.

Otherwise, you can always restore from your Time Machine )or similar) backup.
