Why do the Photos App open every time I save a photo from the web on my Mac?

Every time I save a photo from the web to the Photos App, it opens. It's really annoying because I mostly use Safari on full screen and it takes me out of what I'm looking into to open the app. How do I stop this from happening?

When I want to save a picture from the web, I control-click (or two finger click with a trackpad) on the picture, and it brings up a menu asking where I want it saved.

Does this work for you this way?

I know. It's really annoying. Unfortunately I can't change browsers that easily as I have Safari with all my bookmarks, configurations, reading lists and so on save. I will report this issue to Apple and hope they fix this by adding an option to not open the app every time.

PS. I noticed once the App is already open, the following photos I save do save silently with a temporary notification on the top right. However, most times I'm in the middle of reading something, and when I save a photo for the first time it takes me right out of it. That's what's bugging me. Will have to live with it until Apple fixes this issue though :(

It is only Safari, that is now acting up this way. Mail can still add the photos silently to Photos. Previously it helped to change the Safari > Settings > General and remove the checkmark "Open safe items", but this does not help any longer. For the time being you might try to use a different web browser for downloading or to save the images to a folder on your Desktop and drag them later to Photos. This would have the advantage, that you could drag them directly into the album where you want to collect them.

And you may want to send a feature request to Apple to change this behaviour back: Feedback - Photos - Apple

"No application" was already selected. Unfortunately this did not help solve the issue. But thanks anyways.

ive this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

I think if there's a feature to add straight to Photos, there should be an option to not open the app each time. I usually browse the web for work through various websites and sometimes I do need to save an image to Photos, but since I move from Mac to iPad to iPhone often throughout the day for work, I don't always remember to transfer the photos from downloads to the Photos App and I need the saved photos in the photos app to access it from the other devices, and it also defeats the purpose to have to do the way you mentioned as I'd have to open the Photos App either way. But thanks for trying to help.

Technically yes, but I don't always remember to do it prior as a may or may not save a photo at a random time throughout the day. After its opened, if I keep the App open, it only show a notification, but I wish it did that from the first save stead as I always use Safari on fullscreen and it's annoying to unwontedly be taken out of it.
