When selling I’m told to wipe my iMac; does that mean erase Macintosh HD and Macintosh HD Data?? I’m using Ventura 13.4
it would seem like I should just erase the Macintosh HD Data.

Also be sure to deauthorize that Mac through the Music app.
Evidently I DON’T have that chip, even though it gave me that Erase all option.
Eventually I rebooted, held Option Command R and it reinstalled Ventura for me.
Now it boots up like brand new, but since I’m selling it I’m hesitant to fill out anything like naming the computer, network, etc.

The two parts are interrelated. Deleting either damages the startup.
Erase All Content & Settings does it the way you did (sort of), but also recreates a new Data volume connected to the System volume.
Did you Erase the volume or did you Remove it? I have not tried Removing the Data volume, but that might have been successful if startup recognizes it is missing, it may create it. You left the volume, but erased the necessary startup files.
Erase all content & settings only works on a an Intel Mac with a T2 chip or on Apple Silicon. It doesn’t erase the Data volume, per se, it deletes the encryption keys so the data cannot be accessed. This is essentially the same as removing the Data volume.
I followed the instructions for “if you CAN’T use Erase All Content” (even though the option was there, it said I couldn’t use it).
When I got into Disk Utility I erased Macintosh HD Data only, thinking that would leave the OS okay. Then I had to Restart, and it only comes up with a question mark.
I Restarted again and held down Command R and then FIRST it had to reconnect to the internet. FINALLY it got to reinstall the OS. Why does it have to??? I didn’t delete it.
