Unable to setup Touch ID on new Magic Keyboard

Unable to setup Touch ID with a new Magic Keyboard with Touch ID (Apple MK2C3LL/A) on my 2023 Mac Mini (M2, Sonoma 14.2.1). The Keyboard connects successfully to the Mac wirelessly (Bluetooth). When attempting to setup Touch ID: Double-Pressing the power button on the Mac mini when prompted to securely connect does nothing, so cannot enter fingerprints.

Cannot use any Touch ID functions to access passwords, use Apple Pay...a total loss of Touch ID functionality! Two Apple support articles ("Use Touch ID on Mac" and "If Touch ID isn't working on your Mac") have not resolved the problem. Any others with the same problem? Any solutions?

Initating "touch ID" on magic keyboard Cannot add fingerprints to Magic Keyboard. Instructions are to "double click" the power switch to lock the keyboard to the computer (Mac mini 2). Attempted numerous times to add fingerprints with no success.
