Inserting a formula

I have inserted a new row at bottom of my spreadsheet, when I type the = key to insert the formula instead of getting the formula box I get an = sign.

Hi Barry116,

What is the data format of that Cell? Try changing it to Automatic.

Regards,
Ian.

A cell must be formatted as Automatic to accept a formula.

Click on that cell where you want to insert a formula.

Format Panel (on the right) > Cell Tab > Data Format.

If you see Text, then that cell will accept = as Text. It will not accept a working formula and will not bring up the Formula Editor.

Change the Data Format to Automatic. Delete the original =
