how to move videos out of photos into a folder on desktop

I have an iMac, Sonoma 14.2.1

If I click and drag a video from photos into a folder I created on the desktop, I now have the video in the folder and still in photos. Can I then delete the video in photos? Will deleting the video in photos effect the video I dragged into the folder?

First, I wouldn't click and drag the video-- what happens when you do that depends on the version and maybe other things-- it's not really supported. I would use File>Export.

If you Export Original, then you get the unmodified, un-edited video. You have two-- the exported copy and the one in Photos. They are completely independent of each other. You can delete the one in Photos and still have the complete video in the Finder Folder.
