My ultra Apple Watch keeps disconnecting from my Garmin heart rate strap. It’ll stay connected for about a minute and then disconnect. It’s maddening. I wish Apple would take sports mode seriously. I have this expensive watch and keep wearing my old Garmin watch because it’s more reliable as an exercise tool.
This is clearly an issue with IOS not with the third party(aka Garmin, Wahoo, Polar). There are many people here with the same issue with different Heart Rate Straps. I have the newest heart rate strap from wahoo that connects without problems to any other device except my Apple Watch Ultra 2. There it stays connected for about a minute and then the connection is dropped. This is really frustrating
Apple sold take sports seriously. It is up to any third party to make their device or app compatible with Apple's OS or iOS. Contact Garmin and see if they can help. It's possible they have not updated to the latest Watch OS.
I reached out to Garmin right away and they were at a complete loss. Their costumer service leaves a lot to be desired, but they really did try to help. I even got a call back a few weeks later explaining they have no idea what is going on with the connection drop out.
Also, many people are under the assumption that HR monitors can be updated. This is not true, as many of them can only send out information.
