Mac OS 9.1 Error on iBook

I run Mac OS 10.4 on my iBook G3 and I went to the startup disk settings for fun. I noticed that it said there was a Mac OS 9 drive but I tried to install Mac OS 9 in the classic system folder last year but failed.

I restarted in Mac OS 9.1 but when it showed the “Welcome yo Mac OS” screen but then an error appeared saying “The system software on the startup disk only functions on the original media, not if copied to another drive. So then I put in some Mac OS 9 disks but nothing worked so I’m stuck.

I found out how to fix it so if anyone wants to know: On startup hold command + option to enter the startup option.

Then put in a Mac OS 10.3/10.4 installation disk and start the computer into the cd (the CD should be an option on possible startups).

The CD might not run a couple times (and error that would end in something like hanging in there). Go into the startup disk option in the installer then choose the Mac OS 10.4 option and restart in that.

Then it’ll start in Mac OS 10.4 and should work.
