How do I upgrade my MacBook Air software when it's not available or compatible to my mac?

  • I have a MacBook Air (13-inch, 2017) with macOS Sierra Version 10.12.6. It appears that Chrome and some sites I use don't support this update. The problem is there are no new updates. I need macOS Catalina 10.15 and up but I don't see that available to me on my computer. How do I upgrade my mac software when it's not available or compatible to my mac?

  • My computer isn't that old and working fine. I shouldn't be forced to buy a new computer. Can anyone help?

A 2017 MNacBook Air can be upgraded to Monterey or earlier but no later than that. See the following from Identify your MacBook Air model - Apple Support

MacBook Air (13-inch, 2017)

Model Identifier: MacBookAir7,2

Part Numbers: MQD32xx/A, MQD42xx/A, MQD52xx/A

Newest compatible operating system: macOS Monterey

To upgrade, see instructions in How to download and install macOS - Apple Support

Be aware that if you upgrade to Catalina 10.15 or later you will also need to update any non-Apple 32-bit apps. See: https://www.stclairsoft.com/Go64/
