Switching to & from light mode

Cannot turn on light mode. When it is selected the background around the check mark is orange and the screen stays in dark mode. Restarted the phone and it didn’t help. Running IOS 17.2.1

Light mode will NOT turn on. As you can see from the photo light mode is not on even though it is selected. Please note the color of the circle the check mark is in. Normally this circle is blue not orange.

to turn Dark Mode on or off. Go to Settings > Display & Brightness, then select Dark to turn on Dark Mode, or select Light to turn it off.
