It is free or paid for added features.
Run the Application and it should remove the malware / adware. Once done, restart computer and test.

Opening an email will not install anything, even if opening it downloads something. The only way to put malware on your Mac is for you to actively install something. It won’t magically happen.

The download would require the User ( you ) to purposefully Open the payload and Give the software ( Malware ) permission to bypass the Builtin Protection provided by the Operating System
