Stolen Device Protection 17.3 and iPad

I might be missing something, but does anyone know why Stolen Device Protection isn’t available in the settings app of the iPad?


I’ve enabled the feature on my iPhone but no option to turn on in the iPad settings? Maybe turning on the feature on an iPhone protects all devices using the same Appleid?


If it doesn’t, I can’t see how this is less of a security issue as I use my iPad outside the home fairly frequently where thefts occur, coffee shops etc.

I totally agree with your comments and surprised that not that many seem to think this is an issue. Surely, any device signed into the same Apple ID should warrant the same protection. I use my iPad away from home too. Surely again, a very nice and desirable MacBook would be a welcome target in a burglary. Of course it’s not the same risk as an iPhone but perhaps any device that is signed into the same Apple ID should have the same protection.


I do welcome Apple addressing that serious security flaw in 17.3 for iPhone. This is commendable for sure as an iPhone is an always-with device so far more open to being stolen but I think every device signed into the same Apple ID should have the same protection.

Having a passcode stolen by someone looking at an iPad from behind me seems far more likely than the same thing happening with my iPhone. I’ve always worried when iOS insists I have to enter my passcode when I am sitting at my local coffee shop. The iPad, sitting open on a table, is incredibly exposed with its large screen. More so than my iPhone in my opinion.
