When I changed my time zone / location of Mac, my US contacts now have incorrect phone number formats

Under system preferences, I chose Date and Time, Language & Region. Selected Ireland. Now in my contacts, only SOME of the contacts have taken the US numbers and re-arranged the area code and phone number. For instance, a number that might have been (504) 555-5555 is now reading as (50) 455 55555.
