If it's music from your own CDs, the traditional way is by connecting the iPhone to your computer, and using
- iTunes (in macOS Mojave and earlier, or on a Windows PC)
- Finder and Music (on macOS Catalina and later)
You select one computer and iTunes/Music Library to hold your master music library, and do mostly one-way syncs from that library to the iPhone (or iPad or iPod).

Apple also has a subscription service called iTunes Match and a similar Apple Music subscription feature. I believe that when the iTunes-Match-like feature in Apple Music syncs music to other devices, it may sync DRMed copies – ones which won't work if you ever stop subscribing to Apple Music.
