Mac Mail images NOT displaying in HTML email sig

Am updating an existing HTML email sig in my Mac Mail (Macbook Pro / Sonoma) using code that has worked previously without issue. The existing email sig uses 2 images which display with no problems.

I want to update one of those images with a new image. This is where the problem is, I can't get the new image to display. All I get is a white framed box with a small blue ? icon.

The code is sound, I've tested it by repeating the existing images in different places. They pull through fine. Only when I use a new image does it not display. Code below for ref.

<img alt="[IMAGE NAME]" src="[URL LINK]" width="130" style="width: 100%; max-width: 130px; font-family: sans-serif; color: #ffffff; font-size: 20px; display: block; border: 0px;" border="0">

Here's what I've tried so far:

  1. Changes to the image – double checked RGB, jpg and png versions. File size down from 432kb to 76kb
  2. File name test – took existing working file and tweaked the file name, it linked fine. Amended the graphic using the same file name and URL, this didn't link. This suggestes the URL is either an issue or any new saved image is blocked in some way.
  3. Tested different image hosting locations – Loaded the image onto my hosted website (this worked before), directly into my CPanel email assets file (this worked before), and onto GDrive (read this worked). Non of them worked this time.
  4. Checked the email settings – Mac Mail Settings > Privacy> Mail Privacy Protection > All unticked. Made no difference.

Am out of ideas and can't find any ref online. Am guessing it's something to do with my IOS upgrades in Mac Mail, but am stumped. Help!

I have HTML sig's that have continued to work with no issues through many many macOS upgrades including the current Sonoma 14.3

This was the go to ref from many years ago, Coneybeare was the 'go to' tutorial— see if the Sonoma ref has anything for you.

Hi, (MrMstrs again using a different account) thanks for the recommendation.

I followed the steps carefully and came to the same result. I even copied Matt's code into my email to test and found the same problem.

So this rules out the code and image source as the problem, and suggests it's something to do with the mail peferences. Old images display fine. Any new ones are blocked.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi, the image not loading is in the email body itself, not the sig panel. I know it doesn't show there. The strange thing is that older images used in the same sig appear. Anything new (and I've tested a few in different formats including the Matt Coneybeare logo from his script) won't load as an image and just displays the box with the blue ?. So it's definately to do with my Mac mail software.

You are fretting over something over which you have no control. If you send an email to me that contains html I will never see the html content. I, and many others, block such content for security reasons. Use plain text in email.
