Attaching documents to apple mail

When I attach documents to apple mail the mail browser sorts by most recent file with the older files lower down often below visible part of screen. So when I have a new document - if it is within a file I created say 5 years ago i have to scroll down etc etc.

is there away of changing the mail sort so that the folders are at least sorted alphabetically rather than by the date they are created?

It is driving me slightly insane ! I don't think it used to do this but has been like this for a while.
