Lightning port broken in warranty - repair refused

Hello apple,

i have an Iphone 13 mini. This phone is still under warranty, but the Lightning port stopped working. But dueto a shattered back of the device, Apple is refusing to repair under warranty.

The defect is: It is not charging. I do not understand why this is not seen as a warranty issue. I attached the picture below. There is a pin of the Lightning port missing. This cannot be linked to the back of the device.

I am quite dissapointed from Apples support in this case. I do not need the back reworked, but i would prefer to have a phone equipped with a functioning lightning port.

iPhone 13 mini, iOS 17

Accidental damage is not covered under Apple Warranty. It has never been covered. How your charging port became damaged could have happened from the fall. But the fact remains Apple would not attempt to service the port on a phone whose back is shattered. Which leaves with the two options I posted above.

Pay for an Out of Warranty replacement OR

Buy a new iPhone

Not sure what dueto is, but if you are saying the back of the phone is shattered, they denied your service under warranty because the phone is damaged, beyond just the lightning port. If there is other damage on an iPhone, Apple won't fix something else under warranty. The phone is damaged. It's that simple. Showing us a very grainy picture of the port really won't help you or change the outcome.

Your options are to pay for an Out of Warranty replacement phone or buy a new iPhone.

I think it really helps understanding the problem of the pin missing that causes the problem. But i understand this ripped you of the opportunity to tell me "it has waterdamage due to the broken back". As for the quality, i will invest in a better digital microscope, so you get prettier pictures.

It doesn't help anything at all. It is completely irrelevant. your phone is physically damaged. The warranty is void. You either pay for repair/replacement, or you recycle it and move on.

One of the main reasons Apple will not do a warranty repair on a phone with other damage is because it is likely that the phone will become more damaged when they try to do the warranty repair. If the back is already shattered, it's likely to just fall to pieces when they take the back off to repair the port. You could end up with an unusable phone. Apple is not going to take responsibility for that.

Also, if the phone shows signs of damage, since Apple wasn't around when it happened, they can't say for certain exactly what happened or how it might have affected the port.

Sure go buy a digital microscope and show us the picture. Which won't help you in ANY way. We aren't Apple. We are ALL users on this user to user only forum. We can't override Apple's decision on your warranty request. And we've explained to you WHY it was denied.
