Location Sharing paused at one location for specified time

I hope someone can help me figure out why a location pauses on Find my Friends and changes from saying "now" or "1 minute ago" next to a friend's name, to a future time like "in 16 hours". A friend of mine shares her location with me and majority of the time it is live. Recently, there have been a couple of instances where her location is paused at her residence, even though she travels to a location a couple of hours away. Next to her name, it says "in 16 hours" and that time will countdown until it reaches live time again, when after those 16 hours it will once again show her actual location in live time. Is there a feature on the iPhone that allows users to freeze their location for a specified amount of time or is this simply a glitch?
