Cancel a subscription before the free trial period ends

I have noticed how unbelievably easy it is to make a purchase on the App Store. This is frequently followed by a confirmation email from the seller. Unfortunately, it seems to take a rocket scientist to figure out how to cancel a purchase before the free trial period has ended. After you think you have jumped through all the hoops, nothing happens. You get no indication that you have been successful. Unlike when you ordered it, you get no indication that you will not be billed. The seller does say you need to cancel, but doesn't provide any information on how that is done. Logically, you would think the app would include the option to cancel before the trial period ends, but oh nooo. Where does one go to get the straight scoop on how this is done?

iPad, iOS 10

Cancel a free trial the same way as you cancel a paid subscription. There is an Apple article that explains how to cancel subscriptions. Click on the following link: If you want to cancel a subscription from Apple - Apple Support

The following may help you later verify that it is cancelled:

If the option to cancel a subscription is missing, see the following excerpt from Apple Support article If you want to cancel a subscription from Apple - Apple Support

You might need to scroll down to find the Cancel Subscription button. If there is no Cancel button or you see an expiration message in red text, the subscription is already canceled.

Also, a subscription that is already cancelled will typically have wording in fine print similar to "Expires on [date]" rather than "Renews on [date].”

It is really obnoxious. The only way they let you cancel your free trial is if you forfeit the remainder of the free trial. I have recently switched to iPhone and this is infuriating. In the Google Play Store you are allowed to cancel your subscription without losing the remaining time of your free trial. This is clearly a trick, apple is hoping you forget about it and they stick you with a recurring charge for a service you do not want. I must say of all the disappointments I have encountered in the short time I have had me my iPhone, this one is the worst. Once my free apple music trial runs out I will be going back to Amazon Music, they too let me cancel the my subscription and enjoy the remainder of the free trial. I am willing to pay for these services but I really do not like the disingenuous way they try to trap you in subscriptions after their free trial period ends.
