Although the info panel icon is blue (means active) the actual panel is not showing anywhere. No longer possible to read all the information associated to the selected photo

That works. The macbook wasn't connected to the second monitor but somehow it acted like it still was. As soon as I plug the external monitor in, I saw the info panel there. Weird, since it never happened to me before, but now it's fixed. Thank you!
That's weird. Do you have another monitor connected, or does the Mac think you have another monitor connected? What do you see when you press the F3 key (without pressing fn)? How about Photos>Window>Bring All to Front? Press Command-i? How about move the main Photos window nearly off the screen?
Very cool. When I have an additional monitor connected, I'll sometimes look at the Photos window and wonder where the Info Window or the Keyword Manager went, and then go "ugh" and remember to look in the other monitor. I feel your pain.
