Emails in iPhone remain in outbox, despite being sent

When I send emails from iPhone (iOS 17.2.1) they get stuck in outbox, despite being sent. In other words the same email will be both in sent items as well as in outbox. The recipient of the email will receive the same email multiple times until you delete the email from outbox. The only temporary fix is hard resetting the phone, after which it send one or two mails as usual and thereafter they again get stuck in outbox.
