iPhone says I'm not in a familiar location, but I am at home

Wanting to adjust some security settings, but my phone says I have to wait an hour because I am not in a familiar location, yet I am in my own home.

I know its really annoying. However you can completely remove that feature easily from ur settings. Go to passcode and Face ID then find stolen device protection and turn it off. It will force you to wait 1 hour but after that it will never bother you again.

Believe me I've done that half a dozen times. It will not accept a different Home Address nor will it let me edit or delete the incorrect one.

Have you done that with the Contacts app or the Maps app? If you only attempted to changed it using Maps, I would instead use Contacts. The address field in Contacts is just like any other field that can be removed, edited, and you can even add additional Home addresses. If you are unable to make any changes in Contacts, it may be that there are Screen Time Restrictions turned on. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions, and shut it off.

I think it is indeed WiFi that is causing the miss-match between familiar locations and actual location. I am at work. Work is recognized as a familiar location but it keeps telling me I'm not at a familiar location. However, I tried turning off my WiFi connection and it works. It sees where I'm at now and I can make the necessary changes. So, for those having an issue, try turning off WiFi

This PITA happened to me yesterday. I was literally sitting in my garage, Find My saw my device as home and this **** setting wouldn’t turn off. It took about 20-30 minutes to recognize before it would let me do it.

I get the added layer of protection and this one really is secure…however, I couldn’t do a repair to my phone because of it. So, if you decide to keep it on, turn it off before any service.

Reply to SoupyShot’s reply to mine 5:18 AM GMT - by some miracle or jiggery-pokery or me fiddling with various apps (FWIW among other steps I deleted the Maps app, closed down and rebooted the phone, then brought Maps back - not sure if it was that) in the wee small hours I FINALLY got rid of the incorrect address that Maps inexplicably had for Home. It now seems to be taking Home from my contacts card but not perfectly which is frustrating. It does have the correct postcode now which may be as close as I can get until Apple tidies up the address database they link to.

Yes I considered restoring the phone but may not need that now.

This all started because I activated the new Stolen Device Protection which may have been a blessing in disguise or I may not have become aware that Maps had an incorrect Home address.

Good luck!

I've had similar. After activating Stolen Device Protection I went in to try to strengthen my passcode but was told phone not in a familiar location and had to wait an hour. I eventually discovered that Favourites in Maps on my phone has an incorrect Home Address which (a) is unfamiliar to me and (b) I have no idea how, when or why it got there. I have been unable to correct or even delete it because this is apparently done via My Card in Contacts which itself has the correct Home Address. FWIW my iPad has all the correct addresses. Furthermore, GPS seems wonky today because Find My in both phone and iPad seem to think my phone is sitting in the property next door. My enquiry with Apple Support has been kicked up to Senior Level! What a mess and I don't think of my own making.

I am having the same problem where I am at Home, I have Home as a favorite and it is recognized as a "significant location" in Location services, but trying to turn off Stolen Device isn't recognizing that I am indeed home and forcing me to wait an hour. Looking at the Maps app, it says I am "10 feet away" from "Home", which of course I am and the exact number of feet changes depending on exactly where I am sitting at in my home. I have tried refining the location in Maps but to no avail.

I have read all of the support links listed in all of the and everything is configured correctly that it should know I am at my familiar place at Home...what's wrong??
