Preview flattens my text

I added text annotations in Preview

Next time I open my file, the text is flattened. I cannot delete it

How did that happen ? I do not want the text flattened

I want to be able to delete or edit it.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 13.6

Fillable PDF text size When editing fillable PDFs with text fields, the Apple PDF renderer will not dynamically adjust the text size. This is an issue with macOS Preview.app and most iOS apps. This is not an issue with Chrome or Firefox on macOS. For example, see the issues with the BSA Eagle Scout Rank Application. There are no issues when editing this PDF with Google Chrome on macOS: There are issues when editing this PDF with Apple macOS Preview.app:

File > Print… : Save as PDF will flatten the annotation layer into the PDF and that ends your access to those annotations for subsequent Preview access.

As Preview autosaves annotations to the open PDF as you add them, at least on the local Apple filesystem and iCloud Drive, manually saving the PDF is purely optional.

If you add text to an image it will be flattened. Convert it to a PDF first if you want to edit annotations.

The original was editable pdf.

I added text to it - next time I opened, it was flattened.

Preview can not edit PDFs so I'm not sure what you did.

I seems that when you save Preview, it will flatten your text that you added (with the tex button)

File > Print… never occurred to me since I never use it. You could be on to something.
