Microsoft One Drive Syncing
Does Microsoft One Drive on Mac Sonoma sync better with "Download files as you use them (recommended)" or with "Download all OneDrive files now" setting under preferences?
What is your experience?
MacBook Air (M2, 2023)

I have been searching all the Microsoft One Drive pages. Much of the advice is for PC users so it is not helpful.
I have been having synching problems when using the option "Download all OneDrive files now".
I first upgraded to Sonoma hoping that would help, but it did not.
After resetting one drive with the hidden reset command, I am now trying the alternative "Download files as you use them (recommended)". Too early to tell if this is preferable. I do not like that I don't have all files locally. If the internet is dead or you are unable to connect, no access for you.
I use Microsoft One Drive at work with a relatively small number of files. All are stored locally and there are no sync problems. That said, when all files are stored locally One Drive must check each one individually and synchronize if one is out of date. When files are stored online only, it would seem that there is less "work" to sync since none of the files are locally stored. Yet the application should work properly either way. If you are having problems with a Microsoft product, you could explore that further with Microsoft.
