Laser Printer Recommendations

Hello All,

I'm looking for recommendations for a laser printer that is compatible with MacOS and works with AirPrint, without any issues. I currently have an HP inkjet and I have been looking at Canon, Brother, and Epson printers.

As I stated above, I currently have an inkjet printer and I'm getting fed up with dealing with inkjet subscription costs/costs of double (black and color) inkjet cartridge purchases. I was told that laser printers, (though they don't print in color, which isn't a problem) yield more printed pages than inkjet printers and the maintenance isn't the same.

If someone has had some good luck using a laser printer with MacOS that has the AirPrint capability, please recommend it so I can look into it.

Thanks in advance.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 14.3

I've never had an issue with Brother laser printers. My current one is a 7 or 8 year old Brother DCPL2540DW Wireless Compact Laser Printer and it still works well for printing and scanning with the latest macOS Sonoma 14.3.

I print very little and never have an issue with ink drying out as can happen with ink jet printers.

That model I suspect is no longer available but I wouldn't hesitate to buy a newer model when needed.

I also now recommend Brother printers. I've only used their laser printers and never their inkjets. If you don't need color, then definitely go with a laser printer. These days almost all of the inkjet printers use up a lot of ink even if you rarely print anything because they need to keep cleaning the printhead nozzles so they don't become blocked.....this uses up a lot of ink and is where the printer manufacturers make all their money.

Avoid HP printers completely. HP is known to play nasty games with people where they can brick your printer with a firmware update if you are using third party ink cartridges. In fact, if you have an HP multifunction printer which includes a scanner.....HP will prevent you from scanning a page to your computer if one of the ink cartridges is out of ink. Plus the quality of HP printers has deteriorated a lot over the last decade. I used to always like & recommend HP printers a long time ago, but am now completely against them. Also HP printers tend to have a lot of issues printing from macOS even back in the day.
