deleting photos

I can’t seem to be able to delete some photos. Instead of a trash can there is the letter “i” at the right hand bottom corner. I tried synching photos and deleteing via itunes but to no avail. Why won’t apple just let us delete any photo off of our iphone right off the photos app? Why does such a small thing have to be harder than sending a rocket to the space ? I just want to tap on it and delete it. What are you protecting with this feature? I can’t see an actual use for this failsafe system other than frustration. I have 12k photos and they are growing day by day. Let us delete photos.

You can only delete photos that have been saved to your Photos Library, but not the photos that have been synced from a computer -synced photos or shared photos are just shown in the library, but not stored and managed by Photos. The synced photos can only be deleted by syncing again with a computer. A new sync will replace the previously synced photos - when you sync again, select only the albums you want on the iPhone. The others will then be removed.

To check, if you have synced photos on your iPhone, look at the albums tab on your iPhone. is there a folder "From my Mac"? All albums in the "From My Mac" section have been synced from a computer and can only be deleted by syncing again.

You may also be seeing Shared photos in Photos. if you are seeing photos shared with you in Messages, you have to delete this items in Messages. Photos in Shared albums can only be deleted, if you are the owner of the Shared album. In a Shared iCloud Photos Library only the person who shared the photo can delete it again.
