MacBook Air and pro keeps freezing with the new Sonoma update

My MacBook and my peers pro keeps freezing all the time. We have both updated to the newest Sonoma operating system, and are having the same issues. Our computers used to run really fast and be able to do multiple tasks at once. Now it’s slow sluggish and can only do one thing at a time we have to close a whole bunch of apps in fear that we’re gonna lose our work product. Don’t know what to do and don’t want to complain because our company might want us to go back to windows and that would be horrible. Please help.

MacBook Air, macOS 14.2

You didn't tell us the details about each Mac that's been freezing. This information is available by clicking on the Apple menu-->About This Mac. For each Mac, please provide what model it is (including the year), how much RAM it has, and the size of the internal storage.

I would ask if these Macs have any:

  1. Anti virus
  2. Mac "Cleaner"
  3. Mac "Optimizer"
  4. VPN software

If they do, then the first step would be to uninstall each of them using the vendors' uninstaller (or their directions in the event they didn't bother to provide an uninstaller). These apps simply aren't needed with Macs, and almost always will create more issues than they "pretend" to prevent. (One exception might be VPNs, which sometimes are required to connect to corporate servers).

I'd highly recommend installing a free program called Etrecheck, which will provide us with the details that often time reveal the root cause of many issues. It's available at Etrecheck. This program will not disclose any private or personal inforamation. Simply download/install/run the program, then copy the resultant report and provide it here using the Additional Text icon in your reply window. (Third icon from the right at the bottom of the reply window).
