I get that too, here in Australia. There are very few transport networks for which you can add a travel card to Wallet, or "transit cards" as they are called in the US.

Many transport authorities are enabling their use via an app which provides other services, typically timetables and maps. Investigate that in your area. The list at Where you can ride transit using Apple Pay also shows where you can use contactless payment for travel using Apple Pay. Again, the list is short, though if you are in London TFL accepts this payment method.

*After I read my post I realised from your user name that you are probably in Kettering, which is a bit of a distance from the capital so your options are slim I suspect.
