X inside wifi icon, verifying apps,

My 2012 MacBook Pro has a black X inside of black WiFi icon. WiFi still works, but no network detected. There's no list on the left side and no location. When I add location, it's says "WiFi on" but no Ethernet even though it's connected. Also, it now says "verifying app" on every app I open every time I try to open it and some have stopped working. I haven't made any updates. I know it's an older computer, but I've had no problems until now

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

? Not sure how WiFi "still works" if it sees no Networks...

From >(Option key) System Information>Network> .... you see hardware recognized ?

If the Wifi Card has failed you can replace it on a mid-2012. Either do it your self or any third party computer shop that works on Mac.

Have you shut down and restated your modem, your router, your computer...

Did you call your ISP and ask if there is an outage or an issue with your service?

How are you posting here? if other device connect to your Network this should tell you something.

if this is not an old issue, but a new issue, what changed?

Did you try reinstalling the macOS?
