Disk Utility Issues

Hello,

I was wondering why my Mac was slowing down a lot lately and decided to try and solve that issue but cleaning up a bit. I then realised that there is something unusual with the disk utility (at least I think so). I'm not really sure what is going on here and what can be done about it. I hope someone can help :) thank you!

Disk Utility Message I use a late 2012 iMac running Cataina, almost 11 years old. After using it earlier today, when I tried to use it again, it was shutdown. I tried the power button but no response. Finally, on the third try, it started up, very slowly, which is not unusual at this point in its life. After startup, Safari was not running and I got the popup message that Safari had quit unexpectedly. At that point I decide to run Disk Utility First Aid. When it finished I got the message shown below. First Aid has failed. If possible back up the data on this volume. I take that as an indication DU thinks the HD has a problem that might cause failure. I'm surprised it lasted this long but wondering if that's what the message is telling me.

Secure Erase with diskutil crashes consistently with OS High Sierra 10.13.6 I am trying to securely erase unused space on my iMac's internal hard disk under OS 10.13.6, using the Terminal. Over several attempts, some using freespace setting 0 and some 1, my computer hangs up when between 71% and 84% of the free space has been erased (see screen grab attached); this usually leads to a major crash in which either I must do a brutal restart by unplugging the power cable, or else (when left to run overnight) the computer crashes and goes to a black screen, necessitating a restart. The reason I am using the Terminal rather than simply going through Disk Utility's Erase function is that the relevant button is greyed out. Any suggestions? I have already run Disk Utility's repair function.

iMac running very slow Hello, My iMac (2017) is running very slow. When the problem first started I tried troubleshooting with the help of Apple Support. I did an OS reinstall and used Disc Utility to erase discs according to Apple support notes, but I don't think I've done it right because now it runs even slower! You do not say what macOS is this

what exact Mac this is.. Intel, M1-3...?

What do you think the issue is here(?) to me it looks normal at first glance.

You can post the output from Terminal.app to compare; copy and paste:

diskutil list internal
