Hi! I am currently using Final Cut Pro 10.4.2 on Mojave 10.14.6.
I need to install pro tools but need to update my operating system. I was told I needed Mojave for the version of Final Cut I have. If I update to the newest iOS, will Final Cut still work? Thanks!

Mactracker says Monterey is the last OS that computer can use. If you update to Monterey you can update FCP to around version 10.6.7. You can’t run the current recent versions.
Different versions of FCP can be run depending on the OS in your machine.
You can upgrade your OS and then update your copy of FCP in the App Store.
Which version of macOS you can use depends on your mac model and year. If in doubt go to the Apple menu and choose About this Mac.
The latest version of macOS is Sonoma 14.3. (iOS is for the iPhone).
But a 2015 mac is too old for it.
I believe the last version that works in your mac is Monterey (version 12)

im not sure for pro tools actually but I know the one I have isn’t working.
and if I update to new iOS for pro tools, Final Cut may not work
If you want 10.6.5 specifically, then you need to install macOS Big Sur.
Apple only offers the latest version according to the installed OS. I know that 10.6.5 is the last version that works with Big Sur because I have two macs that run this version and cannot be upgraded further.

So if I click update software on my Mac I have fcp 10.6.5 should work?

You cannot buy an older version. If you have not bought the application yet, the only version you can get is the current one, now 10.7.1. And that requires at least macOS Ventura 13.5.
