How can I find out any information about the operating temperature on a Macbook Pro (M1 Max or any other Silicon-based chip)?

How can I find out any information about the operating temperature on a Macbook Pro (M1 Max or any other Silicon-based chip)?

Any of the few existing methods only work with Intel devices.

ambp:~ root# thermal config
thermal: failed to obtain thermal configuration
ambp:~ root# thermal levels
Thermal levels are unsupported on this machine.
ambp:~ root# ps aux |grep -i thermal
root 564 0.0 0.0 408284224 4656 ?? Ss 12:22AM 0:11.95 /usr/libexec/thermalmonitord
root 7858 0.0 0.0 408635088 1408 s000 S+ 10:45PM 0:00.00 grep -i thermal
ambp:~ root# thermal enable
Load failed: 5: Input/output error
Try running `launchctl bootstrap` as root for richer errors.
ambp:~ root# thermal watch
notify_get_state (therm_level=0)
notify_get_state (therm_level=0)
notify_get_state (therm_level=0)

Neither the `powermetrics` nor the `systemstats` tool is able to show any useful information about the thermal temperature of this laptop. I can tell that the chassis is very hot, as there's a compilation ongoing on a FreeBSD aarch64 VM inside of Virtualbox. The VM has 6 vCPUs assigned to it. There is no noticeable fan noise. Although I have apple care warranty, I would still like to be able to tell if/when the system is operating correctly or not, and how it's managing the different tasks/scenarios for my use-case.

The relevant `systemstats` sections:
