I have an old phone that Apple confirmed is registered to me, that it was bought 6/5/2017 at a Target in Madison, AL. However, they are requiring me to provide proof of purchase from Target (they don't provide beyond 24 mos.) or a credit card (same). HELP PLEASE! I've been to a local store twice and been on my computer or phone all day today!! No luck!

You’ll need convincing proof of ownership to bypass Activation Lock, or you’ll need the Apple ID and password holding the lock, yes. Otherwise, it’s indistinguishable from a lost or stolen iPhone.
iPhone SE 1st gen is limited to iOS 15.
