Is there a way to have a device logged into my appleid account but which does not receive 2FA and login approval messages? For example a kids ipad but which does not get login approval emails? Or do I need to have these devices permanently logeed out of any apple account once they are setup?

Your kids should have their own Apple ID. This would prevent them from getting your 2FA notifications.

2FA is by account, not device. You'll receive the request on any trusted device.

Thats great if you only have 4 kids. Even then, these devices are shared across multiple kids so have a separate screen-time setup. Seems easiest thing is to setup, then logout of icloud/appleid and ignore the nagging messages. Will give that a go. Maybe login once a month, do updates and then logout again.
Thanks for the response. I understand the process for moving a device onto a new person. Not helpful in this case.
