@VikingOSX thanks so much for recommending VueScan for the Lide 120.

Since upgrading to Ventura I've been getting the "Release locking switch. detach USB cable and reconnect" error with Canon IJ Scan Utility2. Installing Canon's latest v2.4.1 driver doesn't solve the problem. Image Capture flags up the same error.

I was about to give in and buy a brand new Lide 400 when I saw the above. I bought VueScan basic for £24 and it works instantly and has given my old scanner a new lease of life. Thanks again

As that model Canon scanner is not supported by Apple's built-in AirPrint nor natively by macOS, you would be dependent upon Canon to produce current drivers to support that scanner on Ventura. If you already have VueScan Professional, it will drive the Canon LiDE 120 without any Canon software or drivers.

Canon released their ICA scanner driver v2.4.1 in Fall 2023 for macOS Ventura. After installation, Apple's Image Capture utility should recognize the LiDE 120 for scanning. Canon also released their IJ Scan Utility 2 v2.4.1 in Fall 2013 for driving this scanner.

See this Canon website, and enter macOS Ventura v13 for the operating system to access these drivers.

A new Canon LiDE 400 scanner costs around $89USD from Canon (or Amazon) and is natively supported by Apple's built-in AirPrint (via USB cable), or VueScan Professional. In my case, I did not install any Canon software from the included DVD, and it was just plug and play with macOS Ventura and Sonoma.
